About Retreading
Retreading is the process of re-developing tyres which have worn out due to prolonged use and rough terrain and need to be replaced. ‘Retread’, also commonly known as “Recap” or “Remold” is a coating applied to a worn out tyre to make work as effectively as a new tyre.
Since only the top surface of a tyre is in contact with the ground while running, it tends to get damaged while the rest of the tyre remains intact. Therefore, a new “Tread”(Rubber Belt) can be put on the top surface of the tyre making it run again like a new tyre.
The properties of rubber that allow it to be used in all forms (Solid, Semi-solid, Liquid) and to stick to itself in any form have made retreading a very successful process. A good quality ‘tread’ when stuck properly on the top surface of a tyre with proper procedure and expertise will give you a tyre service equivalent to that of a new tyre.
Tyres often turn out to be the most expensive entity in vehicle maintenance especially in commercial use. Tyre retreading offers a win-a-win situation in the scenario where it often cuts down costs upto 70%.
